Obituary for Salvatore J. Costanzo

CLIFTON Park - Salvatore J. Costanzo, 88, of Pine Ridge II, died suddenly Monday, Jan 14th after being stricken at home. Born in Mechanicville, July 29, 1930, son of the late Raphael and Rose Taglione Costanzo, after high school graduation from Mechanicville, Sal enlisted in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was discharged as a Sergeant.
A machinist for many years at the former Ford Motor plant in Green Island, Sal had volunteered at Our Lady of Hope for a number of years.
Sal will be remembered for his jovial personality, quick wit and friendly ways.
An avid golfer, Sal along with many friends played in Van Patten golf leagues, were he served years as president. He also was a die-hard NY Yankee fan, who always expected to be Champions. He enjoyed bowling and get togethers with family and friends.
Years ago, Sal was a dedicated Mechanicville-Stillwater Little League manager, coach, league official who loved teaching young boys the game of baseball, being more interested in teaching than winning.
He was predeceased by his daughter Teresa Costanzo and sisters Phyllis Martinelli and Susan Maloney.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years Helen Hebert Costanzo, daughter Mary Costanzo, son Salvatore (Carolyn) Costanzo, grandchildren Tara, Drew and Hannah and great grandkids Shane and Niamh. Step children Neil, Gary and Ron Urbaetis and Valerie Farley, Deborah Hebert Croyle, Christopher (Melissa) Hebert, step grandkids and brother Ralph (Majiel) Costanzo of Michigan, nieces, nephews and families.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 9 AM at St. Mary’s of Crescent Church with military honors burial to follow at Saratoga National Cemetery.
Calling hours at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Thursday from 3-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in respectful memory of Sal Costanzo.
