Obituary for Robert "DD" Linehan

MECHANICVILLE - Robert “DD” Linehan, 93, died Monday, Dec. 31st, at home, after a brief illness. A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born Oct. 18, 1925, son of the late Denis and Irene Russom Linehan, he was a 1943 graduate of Mechanicville High School. A month after graduation, Bob enlisted in the US Navy, serving as a Petty Officer 1st class Machinist Mate on LST 1004 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. During the Korean War, he served as an Engineman 1st class aboard the carrier USS Wright in the Mediterranean. From 1946 until his retirement in 1986, Bob was a locomotive engineer for the Boston and Maine Railroad in Mechanicville, a profession the thoroughly enjoyed. Bob also enjoyed spending summers at his camp at Hedges Lake in Cambridge, NY where he made lifelong friends. After retirement, Bob enjoyed smoking his pipe and watching the neighborhood from his chair in his garage. A communicant of All Saints on the Hudson Church, Bob served as an altar boy during his youth.
His wife of 46 years, Veronica Fruci Linehan died in 1997.
Survivors include his daughter and son in law Susan and Thomas Beaumont of Southborough, MA, grandson Colin Beaumont of Cambridge, MA, two sisters Sister Mary Denise Linehan of Latham and Helen DeVito of Arlington, TX, sisters in law Tookie DeVito and Laura Welch both of Mechanicville, brother in laws Dominick Fruci of Mechanicville and Mickey DeVito of Arlington, TX along with many nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and caregivers with whom he shared his unique sarcastic sense of humor. The family would like to extend their gratitude to his caregivers over the past 7 years including Tracy, Renee, Scott, Anna, Kim, Ashleigh, Marge, Erin and Crystal who enabled Bob to remain in his home until his death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Jan 5th at 10 AM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial with military honors to follow at St, Paul’s Cemetery.
Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Friday Jan 4 from 4-7 PM.
