MECHANICVILLE - Richard H. Wiley, Sr., 85 of Saratoga Ave., died Friday evening at Albany County Nursing Home, after a brief illness. Native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, son of the late Oliver and Ruth Wiley, Rich, also known as Buck, joined the US Army during the Korean War, and honorably discharged in 1955.
A trackman with the Boston & Maine Railroad in Mechanicville for many years before retirement. HE had also worked previously for DiSiena Furniture, Freihoffers and McDonalds.
A longtime member of the American Legion Post 91, the VFW and the Italian Fraternal Society, where he enjoyed playing bocce ball, Rich also liked shooting darts, bowling, and playing the daily numbers and the ponies. His idol was John Wayne and he loved any and all western movies.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 45 years, Shirley Sanders Wiley, who died in 2000, son Bruce and daughter Susan, along with his sisters Mildred and Mabel.
Survivors include children: Patricia Crandall of Saratoga, Richard Jr. of Colonie, Julia of Mechanicville, Sharon Blain of So. Carolina, Ruth Collins of Albany and James Wiley of Cohoes, 16 grand and 25 great grandchildren and his brother James Wiley.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday Dec 27th at 7 PM at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Calling hours prior to the service from 4-7 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial with military honors on Friday at 10 AM at Saratoga National Cemetery.
