Obituary for William C. Tonn

CLIFTON PARK – William C. Tonn, 88, of Bruno Rd, died Saturday Dec 1st at the Ellis Residential & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. Born in Erie, PA December 23, 1929, he was the son of the late William and Viola Tonn.
Bill graduated from Schenectady High School and later received his degree in Art Design in Chicago.
A pressman his whole working life, he finished his career working for Argus Press in Menands until retiring in the mid 90’s. He was a longtime and current member of the Clifton Park Elks Lodge were he had once received the Elk of the Year award. He had also held the position of House Manager for a period of time.
A talented artist, he was an avid drawer and painter with lighthouses being his favorite subject. He was also a car enthusiast who in his youth owned several of the hottest cars of their time.
Bill was predeceased by the love of his life, wife Sally Woodward Tonn in 2012 and his sister Diane Bentley.
He is survived by 8 grateful stepchildren, Linda, Douglas, Michael, William, Kathy, Gregory, Laurie and Elizabeth, 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren as well as a brother Richard Tonn.
Bills family would like to send heartfelt thanks to the staff at Ellis R & R Center for the exceptional care given to him during his stay there, especially his care nurse, Raj.
Calling hours Tuesday from 10-11:30AM will be held at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main Street, Mechanicville, NY with burial alongside his wife to follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 N. Lakeview Ave. Chicago, IL 60614-2256 or the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110 may be made in memory of William C. Tonn.
