MECHANICVILLE - Francis A. Rubino, 87, of South 2nd Ave, died suddenly at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness. Born in Mechanicville, April 2, 1931, son of the late Ralph and Anna Schiavo Rubino, he was a Mechanicville High School graduate. A talented athlete, Frank played minor league baseball for the NY Baseball Giants farm system for several years. After his baseball career ended, Frank worked for the Mechanicville Department of Public Works until beginning a lengthy career as an equipment operator for NYSEG until his retirement in 1992. He was then elected as Mechanicville’s Commissioner of Public Works, proudly serving his beloved community.
He was a former president and member of the Plum Brook Fish and Game Club, the Sons of Italy and the Mechanicville Athletic Club. A true family man, Frank’s true passion was with his wife, children and grandchildren, creating memories they will cherish forever, and sitting on his porch, watching for family, friends and neighbors.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Rosemary Ennello Rubino, whom he married on April 17, 1956, son Michael(Linda) Rubino of Daytona, FL, daughter Lisa(Daniel) Starks of Mechanicville, grandchildren Michael(Kristen) Rubino, Nicholas(Matthew McHarness) Rubino, Kristen(Kevin) Samples and Daniel, Kyle and Mikela Starks as well as great grandchildren Gianna, Willow, Deante, Max and Haley. Special thanks to friends Joanne Starks and Shirley Cyr for being such great friends and for always being there to help Rosemary. Frank was predeceased by his siblings Daniel Rubino and Angela Peterson.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1-4PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. A Funeral Home Service will be held following the calling hours at 4PM. Burial at St. Paul’s Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
