SCHAGHTICOKE - Anthony “Taw” Anatriello, 92, died peacefully in the comfort of his home on October 11th, surrounded by his family. Born in Mechanicville on April 14, 1926, son of Mattia and Lucia (Cavotta) Anatriello, he was a 1944 graduate of Mechanicville High School and Hudson Valley Community College.

Taw enlisted in the US Marines during WWII, attaining the rank of corporal. As a 3rd Amphibious Corps China Marine he proudly served in Okinawa and was honorably discharged after the war ended.

Taw started his career as a brakeman with the B&M Railroad. Once becoming an electrician he worked at various companies, eventually retiring from GE Silicones after 26 years. Always a hard worker, Taw was also a self-employed electrician who along with his brother Ken “Colonel”, owned Anatriello Bros. He was a lifetime member of the Local 359 Electrical Union.

Once a Marine, always a Marine, Taw was a proud member of the Marine Corps League in Troy and the China Marine Association, as well as the American Legion Post 91, Mechanicville.

He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and regularly attended their athletic and academic events. Taw was also a cherished great-grandfather to his five great-grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan, especially supporting the Mechanicville Red Raiders. Taw was honored by having the “Anthony “Taw” Anatriello Award” at the MHS Football Banquet which is given yearly to the community member who always goes above and beyond the call of duty. In 2016 he became one of the inaugural members in the Mechanicville Athletic Hall of Fame as a Lifetime Contributor. Valuing the importance of education, Taw established a scholarship which is given annually at MHS Graduation.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lillian (Ptachick) Anatriello, whom he married on January 18, 1953, daughters Lucille (Steven) Busch of Binghamton, Carolyn (Jody) Martinelli and Kathryn (Michael) Campbell of Schaghticoke, grandchildren Stephanie (Jason) Westervelt, David (Megan) Campbell, Alana Martinelli, Kayla (Brandon) Bradley and Gianna Martinelli, great-grandchildren Sadie, Max & Paige Campbell, Hudson Westervelt and Kenzie Bradley. Also survived by siblings Marie Zappone, Matthew “Mert” (Marylou) Anatriello and sister-in-law Helen Anatriello and his nieces and nephews, a large extended family and many close friends. He was predeceased by siblings Gaetano Anatriello, Michelena Kaempffee, Philomena Fiacco and Kenneth “Colonel” Anatriello.

As a loving tribute to his siblings, pall bearers will be his nephews James Zappone (Marie), Anthony Fiacco (Philomena), Mark Anatriello (Kenneth) and Dr. Frederick Kaempffe (Michelena).

Full Military Honors and burial will be held on Tuesday, October 16th at Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871 at 1:30pm. Those wishing to attend are asked to be at the visitor’s center at 1:15pm. There will be no calling hours.
