Obituary for Joan M. Palmieri (McMurray)

MECHANICVILLE - Joan M. Palmieri, 85, lifelong resident of Mechanicville, died peacefully on September 26th at Wesley Health Care Center, following a long illness. Born in Mechanicville on August 17, 1933, daughter of the late James and Helen Severence McMurray, she was a 1951 graduate of Mechanicville High School. She was the loving wife of the late Robert F. Palmieri who died in 2010.
Joan served as the secretary for the family owned Palmieri’s Northern Auto Parts (NAPA Auto Parts) on N Main Street in Mechanicville for nearly 30 years until her retirement.
Joan enjoyed her career with NAPA, working side by side with her husband and children, however she found her most joy at home, taking care of her family. She enjoyed cooking/baking and her specialties like goulash and chocolate chip cookies will be sorely missed. She was amazing at crocheting and has left countless family members, babies and friends warm under the blankets she has provided. Joan was also a true “Firemen’s Mom”, wife of a Chief, mother of a Chief and mother of 2 Captains.
She was a longtime member and piano player for the Dorothy Welch Choral Society.
Survivors include three sons: Robert(Becky) Palmieri of Stillwater, William(Kelley) Palmieri of Marietta, GA and Bryan(Julie) Palmieri of Canton, GA, grandchildren: Matthew and Daniel Palmieri, Renee(David) Kelen, Olivia and John Palmieri and four great grandchildren Carter, Sienna, Bentley and Greenlee as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to husband Bob, Joan was predeceased by her granddaughter Grace Palmieri, brother James McMurray and sisters Helen Turner, Janet McCall and Alberta Abbey Comstock.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11AM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 N Main St, Mechanicville, NY with entombment to follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery. A Calling Hour prior to the Mass will be held at the church from 10-11AM.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either The Wesley Foundation, 131 Lawrence St, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 4 Pine West Plaza #405, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Joan M. Palmieri.
