John Robert "Bob" Carpenter
STILLWATER - John “Bob” Carpenter, 85, of Hudson Avenue, died peacefully in his sleep and in the comfort of his home on Monday August 20th. Born in Troy, June 3, 1933, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Cannon Carpenter.
Bob served honorably with the US Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954.
He was a salesman and regional manager for Georgia Pacific and most recently Kruger Paper Company in Montreal. He was a past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Troy and a member of the American Legion Post 1450 of Clifton Park, as well as the Colonie Elks Lodge 2192.
Bob enjoyed Sunday football with his family and was a NY Football Giants fan. A man with a good sense of humor, he was known for his one liners and had a strong Irish wit about him. He enjoyed trips to the grocery store and was very efficient as a couponer. A father of 9, grandfather, great grandfather and companion to his beloved cat Frankie, Bob was most fond of the times he spent with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Shirley Ann Falco Carpenter, whom he married on January 19, 1952. Also his 9 children: Robert(Felicia) Carpenter of Slidell, LA, Brenda(Tim) Gavigan of Schaghticoke, Mary Alice(Michael) Lanoue of Troy, Susan(George) Schwab of Malta, Colleen(Chuck) Pafundi of Stillwater, John Carpenter of Mechanicville, Tony Carpenter of Schaghticoke, William Carpenter of Stillwater and Michael(Marnie) Carpenter of Milton; 13 grand and 17 great grandchildren; sisters in law Maureen Carpenter, Bonnie(Peter) DeRusso and Jean Kane and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Charles Francis Carpenter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 24th at 10AM at All Saints on the Hudson (St. Peter's) Church, 895 Hudson Ave., Stillwater with military honors and interment to follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery. An hour of gathering for family and friends will be held at the Church, prior to the mass, starting at 9AM.
