Obituary for Robert E Schunk

CLIFTON PARK, NY - Robert E. Schunk, 71, of Tanner Rd, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 26th with his loving family at his side, following a brief illness. Born in Darien, NY November 18, 1946, he was the son of the late Eldred “Sonny” Schunk and the late Mary Irene (Gadd) Schunk Amedick. After his fathers passing, Mary Irene remarried William Amedick, who cared for and raised Bob as his own and who Bob loved as a father his whole life.
A graduate of St. Francis High School in Athol Springs, Bob joined the Air Force, serving proudly and honorably served his country for 3 years during the Vietnam war until his discharge in 1968.
Bob was a forester with Niagara Mohawk first in Batavia and lastly in Albany until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Clifton Park, Stillwater Rescue Squad, Bethany Fire Dept in Bethany, NY, the American Legion and was a communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church, Clifton Park. .
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, flowers, cutting wood and his Koi pond.
He also enjoyed NASCAR, the Price Is Right and just about anything on channel 6(WRGB). His true passion in life was his true love and best friend, wife Jean. He cherished every moment he spent with her and her passing in 2016 left a huge hole in his heart.
Bob was predeceased by his wife of 46 years Jean Schunk and his brother Joseph Schunk.
Survivors in addition to his father William Amedick include his devoted children: Larry Pfalzer of Stillwater, Ann Marie (Ronald) Hausfelder of East Bethany, NY, Robert E. Schunk II of Albany and Anthony (Amy) Schunk of Stillwater, NY 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, siblings Daniel and Richard Schunk, Kevin and William Amedick, Charlene (Rick) Smart and Lori Ann Spence as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 2nd at 10 AM at St. Edward’s Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Rd with military honors and burial in Saratoga National Cemetery to follow.
Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Sunday from 1-4 PM.
