Obituary for Salvadore J Ricciardone

MECHANICVILLE - Salvadore J. Ricciardone, 91, of Brickyard Rd, died peacefully at the Saratoga Center, Ballston Spa, on Sunday, June 24th, with his loving and faithful family at his side. Born in his family’s Mechanicville home on November 29, 1926, he was the son of Marco and Theresa Fava Ricciardone.
Sal joined the US Navy in 1944, served honorably during WWII and was discharged shortly after the wars end in July of 1946. He worked as a machinist for National Cash in Mechanicville for nearly 20 years, before beginning his career with the B & M Railroad in Mechanicville where he worked for 22 years as a rail car inspector until retiring in 1987.
Sal enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling and was a former member of the Trails End Lodge hunting camp, Plum Brook Fish and Game, Peters-Purcell ITAM Post 21 and the Sons of Italy. He was also a lifelong member of Assumption-St. Paul Church.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years Anna Lucarelli Ricciardone, whom he married on June 22, 1947, children Salvadore(Cathy) Ricciardone Jr of Flemington, NJ, Peter(Jeanette) Ricciardone of Clifton Park, Carol(John) Piroli of Saratoga Springs, Marlene(Ralph) Peluso of Malta, James(Melissa Rovella) Ricciardone of Malta, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Anthony and Marco Ricciardone.
Sal’s family would also like to offer sincere thanks to the nursing staff at the Saratoga Center for the exceptional care and compassion shown to him over the past few years.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 - 8PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S Main St Mechanicville, NY 12118. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11AM at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 N Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118 followed by military honors and burial at the Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
