Obituary for Donald A. Gooley

MECHANICVILLE - Donald A. Gooley, 91, former longtime resident of Mechanicville died Thursday, June 14th, at Wesley Health Center, Saratoga Springs after a brief illness.
Born in Mechanicville, March 21, 1927 son of the late Howard and Viola Gooley, Don enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and served on USS Helena (CA75).
After his naval service, Don worked for Pruyn Lumber Co, later sold many cars for Sibley Chevrolet and lastly was the building manager for the Mid-Rise Apts until retiring.
Don and his wife and family operated Central Ave. Cleaners, a one day clothing and dry cleaning service and also a launder mat for a number of years.
A former American Legionnaire, Don also tried his luck at casino slots.
A gentleman with a great smile and attitude of life, Don could make friends with anyone, and was always looking forward to his large extended family’s gatherings.
His proudest moments were with his kids and their families.
Sadly his wife of 64 years, Rose Dragonette Gooley died Oct 3, 2000.
Survivors include his three children: Donn and Gloria Gooley of Cohoes, Raymond Gooley of Florida and Diana Bergeron with Keith Flike of Saratoga Springs. Grandchildren: Michael Gooley, Terry David and Lance Bergeron, Mandy Riechel, Christopher, Daniel, Jennifer and Stephanie Gooley, and great grandkids. Also many nieces, nephews and their families.
Don was also predeceased by son-in-law Terry Bergeron and daughter-in-law Charlene Gooley and by siblings Howard Gooley and Lola Gillespie.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 19th at 1:30 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Calling hours begin at Funeral Home at Noon till services at 1:30 PM.
Burial with Military Honors will follow at Saratoga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Charity of Choice.
