Obituary for Henry Barber

MECHANICVILLE - Henry Barber, former native and resident of Mechanicville, died Tuesday, May 22nd at his home in East Haven, CT, after an extended illness.
Born in Mechanicville May 16th, 1923 son of the late Vincenzo and Emilia Gaudio Barber, Henry was a 1941 high honors graduate of Mechanicville High School. He entered the US Army during WWII in the Army’s Signal Corp serving in the European Theater of Operations.
Honorably discharged in 1947, Henry entered college and earned his undergraduate degree from University of Kentucky, and his master's degree and his PhD from Michigan State University.
A chemist, Henry last worked for Morton International Inc. in Tustin, Calif for 13 years before retiring 1989. He previously had worked for Aero-Jet Industries and Dow Industry for a number of years.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, the former Elizabeth Scott Barber, son Mark (Dawn) Barber of Guilford, CT, 3 grandchildren: Nicholas, Emily and Christopher Barber
Brother Arnold Barber of Poughkeepsie, NY, nieces, nephews and their families.
He was predeceased by his sister Anna DeLorenzo and brother Vincent “Mason” Barber.
A Service will be held on Saturday, June 2nd at 2:00 pm at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial with military honors to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday from 1:00-2:00 pm.
