Buchanan
ROUND LAKE - John R. Buchanan, 88, of Janes Ave, died Friday, February 9 at Saratoga Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Mechanicville on December 11, 1929, he was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret Ruth Buchanan.
John served in US Army from 1948-52 and was honorably discharged with a rank of Sgt. Upon returning home, he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL and Veterans vocational school in Troy. He worked in TV sales and service for Ben’s Radio and TV in Troy for 21 years and later for Landor’s Television and Appliance in Latham until retiring in the mid 90’s.
In his hometown, John was a charter member of the Round Lake Fire Department, and one of the founders, past president and charter member of the Malta Ambulance Corps. He was also former member of the American Legion Post 1450, Clifton Park, Clifton Park Ambulance and the Boy Scouts of America.
John enjoyed working around his home, particularly in his garden, tending to his vegetables, and most notably his Gladiolas and Tulips. He was also an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Doris A. Smith Buchanan, his son John T. Buchanan Sr of Ballston Lake, grandsons John Jr. and Christopher(Jodie) Buchanan, great grandsons Mason and Kade and his daughter in law Bonny Klebeck as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings Thomas Buchanan and Margaret Duffney.
There will be no calling hours.
Spring burial with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family.
Those wishing to remember him in a special way are asked to donated to the American Heart association or the American Cancer Society in John’s memory.
