MECHANICVILLE - Florence Anameier Amann, 95, of So. Central Avenue, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on January 4th, surrounded by her faithful and loving family. Born in Watervliet on May 5, 1922, daughter of the late John and Margaretha Haag Anameier, she was a 1941 graduate of Watervliet High School.
Florence married her husband, Albert and together they built and operated Amann’s gas station on Central Avenue in Mechanicville until his sudden passing at the early age of 52. Florence, always a hard worker, persevered through tragedy to continue running all aspects of the business. Prior to owning the station, she had also worked as a private law secretary.
A great dancer, Florence belonged to the Single Squares Dance Club and was also a longtime member of the former Emmanuel United Church on Park Ave in Mechanicville, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was also a church elder for some time. In her spare time, she was an accomplished seamstress, quilter, knitter and also enjoyed crocheting and working around the house, particularly in her gardens. Crossword puzzles and Wheel of Fortune were also some of her favorite interests and she could regularly be seen on her daily walks.
As busy as Florence kept herself, she always made sure she kept up with all the accomplishments of her grandchildren. Whether it was on an athletic field, academically or professionally, she was always there to make sure they knew she was proudly following their achievements.
Survivors include her children Albert (Mary Ellen) Amann, Margaret (Conrad) O’Connor, and Jean (John Jr.) McBride, all of Mechanicville, grandchildren Jason, Nathan, Albert III and Noah Amann, Alycia Bhatti, Edward, Daniel and Kelly O’Connor, Sue and Jen McBride, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings John and George Anameier and Catherine Dyer.
