Obituary for Rita M. Wiers

MECHANICVILLE – Rita M. (Wierzbowicz) Wiers, 82, of West St., Frog Island, died peacefully in her sleep on Christmas Eve night, in the comfort of her home. Born at the family home on Frog Island, December 29, 1934, she was the daughter of Bronislaw and Alexandria Wierzbowicz.
A Mechanicville High School graduate, she worked as a clerk for the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance for many years until her retirement. She was an election inspector and poll worker in her community and also was a member of the Mechanicville Senior Citizens. An avid NY Yankee fan and devoted Derek Jeter fan, she always kept herself up to date on the team news and daily scores.
She was a devoted and faithful member of the Assumption/St. Paul Parish having attended mass the day of her passing.
Having never married or having children of her own, Rita was blessed to have many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends that always kept her company and showed her undying love. She was known to many of her nieces and nephews friends as Aunt Rita and she rarely missed a get together with them. She also shared a special friendship with her neighbors Yvonne and Paul Bastian who always treated Rita so kindly, often including her in family trips, dinners and caringly kept watch over her. Also local nieces and nephews Linda(Peter Aalto, Thomas(Donna) and Michael(Rita) Roman, Susan Acerra, Walter(Susan) Talmadge and MaryBeth(Nick) Maciariello and their families, several other nieces and nephews and a sister in law Mercedes Talmadge of New London, CT.
She was predeceased by her siblings Monica, Theresa, Michael, Edward, Benjamin, Walter, Frank and Anelia.
Calling hours on Saturday from 10 – 11:30AM at All Saints on the Hudson South Church(St. Paul’s), 121 N Main St, Mechanicville, NY 12118. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow starting at 11:30AM with burial to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Those wishing to remember Rita in a special way are asked to make contributions to the All Saints on the Hudson Endowment Fund, 52 William St., Mechanicville, NY 12118.
