Obituary for Alice M. Farina (VanWert)

Alice M. Farina (VanWert)
STILLWATER - Mrs. Alice VanWert Farina, 90, longtime resident of Railroad Ave, died Wednesday at Samaritan Hospital, after an extended illness.
Born and raised in Schaghticoke, Nov. 11, 1927, daughter of the late Norman and Marguerite VanWert, she was the valedictorian of the Class of 1945 of Hoosic Valley.
For many years, Alice was a clerk/agent for Dunne Insurance Agency of Troy.
She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, listening and singing along to music.
A life member of the Mechanicville-Stillwater Elks Lodge’s Ladies Auxiliary, Alice
was forever looking after and tending to her late husband Felix “Sarge” Farina.
She certainly earned her wings in their 67 years of marriage.
Survivors include her loving and caring daughter and son-in-law Linda and Joseph A. DeVito of Mechanicville, sisters Ina (Frank) Frisino of Pa., Peggy Marx of Watervliet and Sherry VanWert of Troy, a brother Gary (Penny) VanWert of Va., in-laws Angie Montarello, and John (Kathy) Farina both of Mechanicville and MaryRose Farina of Albany, along with nieces/nephews and their families.
In addition to parents and her husband, she was predeceased by sisters Noreen and infant Phyllis and brothers Gordon, Brian, Richard, Fran “Jimmy” and Thomas VanWert
Alice’s family thanks the staffs of both Schuyler Ridge’s Fennimore Unit and Samaritan Hospital’s 4th and 6th floors for their care, compassion and concern shown to Alice.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10 AM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville, with burial in Saratoga National Cemetery.
Calling hours at the Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-5 PM.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either Alzheimer’s Assoc. or Community Hospice in loving memory of Alice M. Farina.
