Obituary for Glenn M. Spielman

CLIFTON PARK - Glenn M. Spielman, 78, of Mayfield Dr, died peacefully at his home on November 25th with his loving and faithful family at his side. Born in Mineola, Long Island, February 15, 1939 and was a life-long resident of Lynbrook, New York. Glenn was the son of the late Edward P. and Theta Morehouse Spielman.

Glenn graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1960 with his BA. He later received his MBA from Baruch College, NYC and then his MPA in Public Health Administration. He worked as the Vice President of Health Services for the Geisinger Health Plan in Danville, PA for many years until his retirement in 2001.

Always civic minded, Glenn was actively involved in the communities in which he lived. As such, he served as Trustee and Mayor of the Village of Lynbrook from 1975-1983. He was proud to have been a member of the Eagle Scout Review Board. After retiring and relocating to the New York Capital District, he was an avid volunteer for the American Red Cross and had a number of roles within the organization. He was also a board member of the Capital Region Medical Research Foundation. He was a board member and former chairman for the American Cancer Society Hopeclub’s Men to Men Support Group and a past board member of the Hudson Valley Health System Agency. Glenn acted as a consultant for the Department of Defense’s congressionally directed Prostate Cancer Research Program and also for the American Cancer Society in allocating funding for cancer research.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 55 years Margaret Sweeney Spielman, whom he married October 6, 1962. Daughters Dr. Theta (Brian) Pattison, MD of Altamont, Deirdre E. Spielman and Megan (David) Klein, both of Niskayuna. Grandchildren Emily, Andrew and Claire Young, Lindsay and Nicholas Pattison, Eliana and Taryn Klein, and loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Edward P. Spielman, Jr.

Calling Hours on Monday, Nov 27th from 4-7PM at Corpus Christi Church, 2001 Route 9, Round Lake, NY 12151. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday the 28th at Corpus Christi beginning at 12PM with friends and relatives invited to come to the church at 10:30AM for an additional visitation. Burial in the family plot at Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, Long Island will be held on Wednesday the 29th at 12:30PM.

Glenn’s family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society Hopeclub of the Capital Region, Men to Men Program, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110 in his memory.
