Obituary for D. Carlton Phelps

MECHANICVILLE - D. Carlton Phelps, 79, of Hemstreet Park, died early Wednesday morning, Nov. 22nd, at home, following an extended illness.
Born in Mechanicville, February 20, 1938, son of the late Eugene and Kathryn Hannon Phelps, Carlton was a 1956 grad of Mechanicville High School.
A chemical operator at G.E.’s Silicone Products plant in Waterford, for many years, retiring in 1998. Previously, Carlton operated the former Shell gas station on No. Main St. for a number of years.
He was a former member of the Mechanicville Fire Dept’s Neilson Hose Co #4.
Carlton enjoyed restoring military vehicles, and puttering about his home and grounds.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years Judith Welch Phelps, sons Keith Phelps of Bradshaw, Nebraska, and Darren (Pamela) Phelps of Mechanicville and his daughter Laurie (Rich Duda) Phelps of Mechanicville. Also grandchildren Deborah Bombard, Guinevere Gauthier, Jennifer, Austin and Amanda Phelps and great grandchildren Timothy and Nathan Bombard and Sofia Phelps. Also his brother Richard (Rita) Phelps of Indiana, Pa., along with nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, Carlton was predeceased by his brother John “Jack” and Joan Phelps.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at Noon at the DeVito-Salvadore funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial in Hudson View Cemetery.
Calling hours at the Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 10 AM till Noon.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children in memory of D. Carlton Phelps
