Obituary for James Riley DeVoe Sr.

James Riley DeVoe Sr.
STILLWATER - James “Riley” DeVoe, 84, of Hudson Avenue died Friday, November 3rd, 2017 at Ellis Hospital, after a short illness. A native of Schuylerville and lifelong resident of Stillwater, he was born May 31st, 1933, son of the late Riley and Asenath DeVoe. Riley was a Union Ironworker for Local 12 for 44 years, retiring at 62. Riley was an avid fisherman known for his love of our local area lakes and streams and was well known and loved for his warm nature, friendly smile, and hearty handshake. He would often give away his catch of the day to a fellow neighbor, friend, or family member. The true loves of his life, however, were his wife, son, daughter and their families, and he adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Carol May D’Ambro, son and daughter in law, James and Debra DeVoe of Stillwater, daughter and son in law, Colleen and Timothy Hems of Stillwater, four grandchildren, James Riley DeVoe III, Morgan Hems, Madison Hems and Maxwell Hems; great grandchildren Ava and Elaina DeVoe. Riley was predeceased by his sister, Jean Casey. There will be no calling hours at the request of the family. Private family services will be held with the Devito-Salvadore Funeral Home.
