MECHANICVILLE - Mrs. Margaret V. Tironi, 83 of Waterford Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 17th at Samaritan Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after complications of a fall at her home on Friday.
Born in Mohnton, PA, January 31, 1934, daughter of the late Harvey and Mabel Daub Leininger, Marge was widow of the late Carl F. Tironi, who died in 2007.
Marge raised her large family, helped run their family farm and was a waitress for many years in the Capital District. She served customers at the former Troy 5th Ave. Diner, Tironi’s Restaurant, Carl Co, Friendly’s and lastly Wendy’s of Halfmoon.
Marge operated her family’s farm stand on Hudson River Road, proudly selling her farm fresh eggs and vegetables to the community.
An active parent, Marge and her husband along with others, started the Mechanicville Red Raider Wrestling Booster Club and attended all her family’s academic and sports activities.
Marge’s home was always open to family and friends as well as a large group of neighborhood children that grew up on the Waterford Road. She was a member of Assumption-St. Paul Church.
Survivors include her faithful and loving children: Margaret “Jean” (Bob Gleeson) Powell, Carl Tironi, Jr., Kimberly (John) DeFelice, Lillian (Tom) Hamel, Theresa (Dan) Hayner, Sr all of Mechanicville and Chris (Kim) Tironi of Cambridge and Curtis(Sandy Eafratro) Tironi of Speigletown, along with 15 adoring grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Also brothers Ray(Joann) and Earl Leininger, and many nieces and nephews. Marge was also predeceased by brothers Charles and Harry Leininger and sisters Ginny and Janey(Bill) Fritz.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9 AM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, Mechanicville, with burial to follow as Saratoga National Cemetery.
Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Sunday from 3-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, Marge’s family asks that tributes be made to either Make-A-Wish Foundation or the American Cancer Society, in memory of Margaret V. Tironi.
