MECHANICVILLE - Anthony M. Luciano, 92, of Warsaw Avenue, died Tuesday, July 4th, at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, February 28, 1925 he was the son of Dominick and Mary LaVigna Luciano and husband of 66 years to the late Florence Caiazzo Luciano, who died in January 2015.
Anthony was a 1943 graduate of Mechanicville High School and later, upon returning from his honorable service in the US Army during WWII, graduated from
Albany Business School.
Tony was a warehouse supervisor for Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, working out of their Niskayuna facility for several years and later out of the West Milton site until his retirement in the early 90’s. Previously he worked at WESVACO in Mechanicville for a number of years. Tony was the Commissioner of Finance for the City of Mechanicville for 16 years and also was the city’s assessor for over 20 years before retiring in 2015. Just recently he was named Mechanicville’s Citizen of the Year, awarded at Family Day.
Tony enjoyed playing bocce ball in the All Saints on the Hudson Men’s League, entertaining the family children at his pool, volunteering as a bingo worker for the church and he and Florence loved traveling, especially the 22 cruises they experienced throughout the Caribbean. A communicant of Assumption-St. Paul Church and the church’s Holy Names Society, he was also a longtime member of the Sons of Italy, Mechanicville-Stillwater Elks Lodge 1403, the Mechanicville Athletic Club and past member of the ITAM.
Tony is survived by his sister Anna Siciliano, brother Vincent “Clinchhead” (Josephine) Luciano, both of Mechanicville, sisters in law Marie Luciano and Mary Corcoran and brother in law Pasquale(Daureen) Caiazzo. He was affectionately known as “Uncle ToTo” by his beloved niece and nephew and families: Marie (Nick) Rinaldi and Michael Siciliano, great nieces and nephew Gina (Jim) Kenyon, Scott Rinaldi and Amy (John) Pickett all of Mechanicville, their children: Kaile, Amanda and Allison Kenyon, Karissa and Kolton Rinaldi, Jonathan and Jacob Pickett, along with other nieces, nephews and families.
Tony was predeceased by his siblings Nicholas(Ida) Luciano, Theodore Luciano and Carmella(Lou) LaRoina.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 AM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 North Main St., Mechanicville, with burial to follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Calling hours at will also be held AT THE CHURCH on Friday from 4-7 PM.
