MECHANICVILLE - William J. Kelly, 73, of So. Main St., died Sunday, Apr. 9th at home, in the company of his loving family.Born in Troy, Oct. 18, 1943, son of the late William A. and Monica Conley Kelly, Bill was a graduate of St. Paul’s Parochial School and Mechanicville High School Class of 1961. He earned a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University.
Bill was the Regional Director of the NYS Office of Parks and Recreation; his office based in the Saratoga State Park. Previously he was an electrical engineer with the NYS Public Service Commission. Bill was an early supporter, aide and confidant of former Gov. Hugh L. Carey. He was instrumental in founding the Young Democratic Club in our area, and was ultimately elected as the youngest Chairman of the Saratoga County Democratic Party, in addition to having been an active member of the local Democratic Party.
Bill enjoyed golf, playing cards, bowling, horse racing and solving crossword puzzles. He was a parishioner of Assumption-St. Paul Church, a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a man who enjoyed the company of many. He loved his family, especially his girls and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sandra DeCrescenzo Kelly, three daughters: Stephanie (Melissa Hurd) Kelly of Clifton Park, Meghan (Jim) Fuschino of Mechanicville and Shannon (Will) Sowers of The Netherlands, his precious grandchildren Isabella and Sophia Fuschino and Nolan Sowers, along with nieces, nephews and their families. Bill was predeceased by brothers Edmund and Tom Kelly and sister Althea "Kiki" Golden. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at Noon at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 North Main St., Mechanicville, with burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Tuesday from 4-7 PM.
