MECHANICVILLE - Genevieve “Genna” Welch, 93, lifelong resident of Mechanicville died Tuesday, Nov. 15th after a brief illness.
A city native born July 3, 1923, daughter of the late Louis and Mary D’Ambro, Genna was a homemaker who during WWII, worked with other women at the Boston and Maine Railroad yard in Mechanicville.
A member of the local Home Bureau Assoc., a longtime member of the Junior Dante Club, an excellent bocci player at the Italian Fraternal Society and a long time women’s bowling league member, Genna enjoyed traveling about the country. She loved her family, grand and great grandkids, spending time with her large D’Ambro siblings and families, and always had a great attitude and outlook on life.
She was a communicant of Assumption-St. Paul Church.
Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband Joseph “Shamrock” Welch in 1993 and her daughter Katherine Welch Corbi in 2009.
Survivors include her three daughters: Helene Welch and husband Joseph Izzo of Malta, Patricia and husband Gary Phelan and Joann and husband Bill Lyons both of Clifton Park. Grandchildren and their children: Joseph (Beth) Corbi and daughter Peyton, David (Janet) Corbi and children Kaitlin, David and Hannah, Jennifer (Patrick) Kane and daughters Katherine and Megan, Cailin and Aaron Peek, Rachael Phelan (Joe), Rebecca Phelan (Brendan), Jessica Lyons (Anthony Tessari) and son James, Jillian and William Lyons. Genna’s longtime companion Alfred Perrotta of Mechanicville, along with many nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to her husband and daughter, Genna was also predeceased by brother Louis, John and Michael D’Ambro and sisters Mary Esposito, Connie Piccarelli and Anna Wallace.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM at All Saints on the Hudson South Church (St. Paul’s) 121 North Main St., Mechanicville, with entombment in St. Paul’s Mausoleum.
Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Sunday from 2-5 PM.
