MECHANICVILLE - Mr. Edward Vega, 97, 0f Hudson Ave., died Friday,
June 5th, at Stratton VA Med Ctr., Albany, after an extended illness.
Born in Niagara Falls, Feb 9, 1918, son of Valentine and Maria Vega.
During WWII, Ed enlisted in the US Army, and served in the European Theatre of Operations, honorably discharged as a Sgt.. During WWII, Ed and his 4 brothers served in the military overseas and safely returned home.
Ed was a millwright who worked for over 25 years at the former West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co., until plant closed in 1971, and then for several years at Tagson’s Paper Co.
He was a member of American Legion Post 1644, Riverside.
Along with family, Ed built his parents and later his own home. He enjoyed puttering about his home, keeping busy with improvements and repairs.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years Stepha Poraski Vega, daughters: Laura (John) Goodman of Greenwich, Carol Vega of Halfmoon Janice Vega of Mechanicville, along with a grandson Nicholas Vega Goodman, and nieces, nephews and their families.
Ed was predeceased by sisters Isabelle Hayner and Emma Vega and brothers Domingo, Charles, Valentine Jr and Samuel Vega.
A Funeral Service will be held 4 PM Sunday at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Calling hours at the Funeral Home Sunday from 2-4 PM.
Burial with military honors will be Monday at 10 AM at the Saratoga National Cemetery; those planning to attend arrive at the Cemetery Visitors Center at 9:45 AM.
