MECHANICVILLE - Irene R. Urkevich, 94, of Pawling Ave, died peacefully early Friday morning at Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home. Born in Hoosick Falls on October 9, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Ignus and Stacia Krawkowski Bruzdowski and wife of the late John E. Urkevich, Sr., who died in 1988.
A homemaker most of her life, Irene had worked for the former WESVACO in Mechanicville during WWII. She was a past president and longtime member of the Henry F. Lefko American Legion Post 1644 Women’s Auxiliary, Riverside, where she was very active in the posts activities, especially the dinners they held, and was also a member of the Saratoga County American Legion. Irene was a lifelong member of the Assumption-St. Paul Parish and a former member of the Mechanicville-Stillwater Little League Ladies Auxiliary.
A proud grandmother, Irene spent much of her adult life helping her daughter raise her two beloved granddaughters. The times she spent with them were always some of the favorite times of her life and will always be cherished memories. In her spare time, she enjoyed Knitting, crocheting, gardening and cooking for her family.
Survivors include her daughter and son, Mary(Michael) Albright and John(Mary Jo) Urkevich, Jr., both of Clifton Park, granddaughters Jennifer(Mark Kaplowitz) Albright and Megan(Justin) Barkevich along with her great grandchildren Rosemarie and Chase, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was predeceased by her sisters Victoria Vosh and Ida Guilianelli and brothers Ignus and Henry Bruzdowski.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 1st at 12 PM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville with entombment in St. Paul’s Cemetery to follow.
