Obituary for Charles W. "Nanny" Nash

WATERFORD - Charles W. Nash, 78, of 2nd St., went home to be with the Lord, Monday morning at Evergreen Commons, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Troy on July 26, 1935, he was the son of the late Walter and Jenny Neilsen Nash. Charlie was raised in Sand Lake and graduated from Averill Park High School in 1955. He later traveled to NYC to study music before returning home. A proud veteran, He served his country with the US Navy from 1964 until 1965 when he was honorably discharged due to injury. Charlie worked for the Watervliet Arsenal from 1970 until his retirement in 1994. He later drove the school bus for the Troy School district and served as a security guard for Burns, before ending his working career in 2004. He was always present in the lives of his children and also found joy as a grandfather. Charlie’s family was first and foremost in his life.
He enjoyed movies, specifically Jaws and the Sound of Music, family vacations to Wells, Maine and was an avid churchgoer.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sandra J. Nash, whom he married November 3, 1979, his children: Daniel(Melissa) Nash of Mechanicville, Jennifer Nash of Waterford, and Timothy(Preethi) Nash of East Hartford, CT; grandchildren Alisha, Danielle and Ethan Nash and an unborn grandchild due October 12th.
Calling hours will be Thursday at Temple Baptist Church from 5-7PM with service to follow at 7PM. Burial with military honors Friday, 11AM at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Charles W. Nash.
