JOHNSONVILLE- Roger E. Irwin, 49, of Johnsonville Rd., died Thursday evening October 11, in the safe and gentle comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side. Born in Glens Falls, April 16, 1963, he was the son of the late Samuel and Thelma LaGoy Irwin. Roger was raised in Adamsville and was a 1981 graduate of Hartford High School. He later joined the United States Army and served proudly for 6 years. A heating and air conditioning tech, he was the facility manager of NYSIO of East Greenbush, ALTEK of Waterford, Phoenix Life of East Greenbush and Hoffman & Miller, Schenectady. An outdoorsman, Roger enjoyed hunting and camping, was a high school soccer referee and had coached within the Hoosic Valley Athletic Association for several years. He was a member of the Johnsonville United Methodist Church since moving to the area where he had served as a trustee and was on the church's administration board. As well as coaching his girls, Roger followed his daughters very closely and was very active in their lives. He could be seen cheering for them at sporting events, and even in every day life, Roger was their biggest fan. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Cathy L. He also leaves behind two daughters, Kayla Marie and Emma Grace Irwin, brothers Michael(Claudia) of Hartford, Terrance(Suki) of Fort Ann, Samuel(Merry) of Hartford, James(Cora) of Adamsville, Ronald(Missy) of Argyle, and Russell(Lisa) Irwin of Hartford as well as sisters Joanie(Keith) Combs of Queensbury, Judith(Daniel) Burch of Hartford, Jayme(Donald) Stalker of Hillsdale and Jennifer(Michael) Collins of Argyle, sister-in-law Cindy Irwin of Hudson Falls, father and mother in law Richard and Nancy Armstrong, Sr. of Hartford, sister-in-law Trudy(Michael) Pruiksma of Cobleskill, brother-in-law Richard(Allison) Armstrong, Jr. of Poughquag, and many nieces and nephews. Roger was predeceased by his brother Daniel Irwin. A funeral service will be held at 6PM Sunday, October 14 at Johnsonville United Methodist Church, 22 Bridge St., Johnsonville. Calling hours will be held prior to the service, also at the church from 2-6PM. Burial with military honors will take place 10:30AM on Monday, October 15 at the Gerald B.H.
