Obituary for John A. Zecca

MECHANICVILLE – John A. Zecca, 87, lifelong resident of Mechanicville, died Monday morning, March 25th, at Maplewood Manor, following an extended illness. Born Nov. 30, 1925, son of the late Augustus and Florence Zecca, John who was lovingly called “Tails” by family and longtime friends, served in the US Army during the Korean War. A machine operator at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady for years until his retirement, John enjoyed tinkering with automotive and engine repairs. An avid New York Yankee fan, John enjoyed the company of his siblings and their families. He was a faithful communicant of Assumption-St. Paul Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son John Zecca, Jr., brothers Ernest, Frank, Ralph and Joseph Zecca and sisters Anna Bersaw and Rite Alonzo. Survivors include many nieces, nephews and their families. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at Noon at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial with military honors at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Friends may call at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville Wednesday morning from 10AM - 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research or Make-A-Wish Foundation in memory of John A. Zecca.
