Obituary for Richard L. Osborn

SCHAGHTICOKE – Richard L. “Dick” Osborn, 78, of Casey Road, died Monday, July 8th at St. Mary’s Hospital, Troy after a brief illness. Born on “Crow Hill” in the Town of Stillwater, Feb. 19, 1935, son of the late Ray and Fannie Smith Osborn, Dick graduated from Mechanicville High School in 1953. A foreman at the waste treatment plant at General Electric’s Silicone Products Div., in Waterford, retiring in the early 90”s. Previously he had worked at the G. E. Plant in Schenectady and years ago for the Ballston-Stillwater Knitting Mill. Proud member of G.E’s Quarter Century Club, Dick loved the New York Yankees and the NY Giants. A coffee klatcher, Dick spent many retirement days having coffee at either the Schag-A-Val, Connors Diner and lately the Ugly Rooster in Mechanicville. Dick enjoyed his time spent talking over and solving all the worlds problems, and the company of many friends. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Janet Gaylord Osborn, who he married in 1957, his son and daughter-in-law David and Robin Osborn of Saratoga Springs, Poppi’s beloved grandchildren: Morgan and Benjamin Osborn, brother Harold Osborn of Clifton Park and sisters Rannie Guiles of Greenwich and Nancy (John)Retell of Stillwater, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Dick was predeceased by a brother who was killed in action on Normandy Beach during D-Day, and sisters Ruth and Bill Starks, Rita Coons, Sylvia Lake and Thelma Niland. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 12th at 10 AM at Transfiguration North Church, Rte 40 in Schaghticoke. Burial in Hudson View cemetery. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main ST., Mechanicville on Thursday from 4-7 PM. Remembrances may be made to a charity of One’s Choice in loving memory of Richard L. “Dick” Osborn.
