MECHANICVILLE – Yolanda DeMartino Zappolo, 92, of Mabbett Street, died peacefully, early Saturday morning, at St. Mary’s Hospital in the company of her loving family. Born in Brooklyn, March 20, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Angelina DeMartino, moving to Mechanicville at a young age. After helping her mother to raise her family, Yolanda worked for a short time as a clerk at the A&P Supermarket in Mechanicville before starting her career as a seamstress, working for Marshall Ray in Troy and later for Cluett & Peabody, also in Troy, until her retirement in the early 80’s. She then devoted her life to spending time with family. She was a doting grandmother who also enjoyed her cherished great grandchildren. Yolanda was a faithful member of the Assumption-St. Paul Parish, and in her spare time also enjoyed crocheting, puzzle books and cooking. Yolanda was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Carmine J. Zappolo, who died April 18, 2000 as well as all of her 12 siblings. Survivors include her children: son Anthony(Bonnie)Zappolo of Albany, daughter Maria(Stephen)Narracci of Nazareth, PA; grandchildren Cynthia Zappolo, John(Kim), Matthew(Raye), Michael and Jeremy Maynard; step grandchildren Holly(Matt) Chiesa and Jill(Randall) Lex; great grandchildren Felicia Merritt, Brian and Natalie Maynard and step great grandchildren Taylor Lex, Isabella and Anthony Chiesa, and Brody and Addison Lex. She is also survived by special nieces: Anna Ferello, Mary Ann Shovah and Carol Zielnicki; great niece Dominique(Dennis) DeAngelo and many other nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 South Main Street, Mechanicville, NY 12118 with burial to follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the All Saints on the Hudson Endowment Fund, 52 William St., Mechanicville, in loving memory of Yolanda M. Zappolo.
