Izzo, Sr. Carm graduated from Mechanicville High School and later received her Teaching Certificate from Oneonta Normal School in 1936. Her first job was in Melrose, teaching grades 1-8 in a one room school house. She began her teaching career in Mechanicville School District in 1952 where she taught alongside her husband, Coach Sam Izzo. Recently, Carm was honored by the Mechanicville Teachers Union as the oldest retired teacher in the Mechanicville School system. After her retirement in 1977, she became an instructor of religious education at Assumption-St. Paul Parish, which gave her the opportunity to stay involved with the youth of Mechanicville and continue teaching, her true passion in life. Carm was one of the founders, and the first president of the Junior Dante Club. She enjoyed many years of bowling, especially mixed doubles with her husband Sam, and also played bocce ball for many years. Most recently in her life, Carm enjoyed watching NY Yankee games with her family, reciting all of the players and the positions they played. Survivors include her children: Lucille(Tino) Pallotta, Joseph “Joe”(Helene Welch) Izzo and Sanford “Sam”(Annette) Izzo; grandchildren Sanford(Kim) Pallotta, Lee(Katie) Pallotta, Meghan(Marc) Russo, Cailin and Aaron Peek, and Jack and Mitch Kowalski; 5 great grandchildren; siblings Dr. Stephen(Opal) Sgambati, Sr., Christopher Sgambati, and Theresa Sgambati; as well as several nieces and nephews.
